SLA Conference 2016

Users of Library Services:
Historical Perspective and Contemporary Tendencies

 
Serbian Library Association organizes international conference „Users of Library Services: Historical Perspective and Contemporary Tendencies“ that will be held at the National Library of Serbia on December 13th and 14th 2016.

AIM

The conference is dedicated to users of library services and will deal with important topics regarding Library and Information Science, such as development of library services in the past and current changes with respect to the library users’ perspective and recognizing needs of present and potential users, ways of meeting their needs, quality and quantity of services in libraries, etc.

KEYNOTE SPEAKERS

Zdenka Sviben, Head of I&R Department, Zagreb City Libraries, Croatia
Are we prepared for the change of paradigm: member, user, human being…?
zsvibenMrs. Sviben graduated from Department of Comparative Literature and History of Art at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Zagreb. She currently works as a coordinator of the Reference and Information  Department in City Library – Zagreb City Libraries, whose employee she has been since 1991. She is a  member of the Croatian Library Association from 1992 and former president of the CLA (2006 – 2010). Zdenka holds lectures and workshops at the Croatian Training Centre for Continuing Education of Librarians, coordinates  national manifestation Croatian Book Month. She has established two national projects: Ask a Librarian and Portal of Public Libraries in the Republic of Croatia. She is the  chief editor of Zagreb City Libraries website, and a member of the development team of ZAKI library software with special attention on the user services. Main fields of professional interest include: public libraries, reference services, users, education.

tomaszgruszkowski-2016Tomasz Gruszkowski studied sociology at the Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznan and University of Amsterdam to learn the inter~ and multicultural dimensions of knowledge. Working at the Computer Centre at the University of Amsterdam made him realise the profundity of changes brought by digital revolution. Between 1995 and 2012 Gruszkowski worked in advertising. Since 2013 he has been author and producer of Internet exhibit „City Rising – Gdańsk“ on the rebuilding of the city after the WW II and author of script and the curator of a museum exhibition „Godmothers and their Ships“ at the National Maritime Museum in Gdansk. Since December 2015 he works at the National Library of Poland, as Deputy Head of Digital Collections Department, responsible for Digitization Workshop, due to start working on IFLA digital Preservation and Conservation Centre at the National Library in October 2016.

TOPICS

Some of the possible topics for the conference presentations are as follows:

  • Historical development of the library and information services and their users
  • Who are the users of the library and information services?
  • Changes in library users’ behavior
  • Statistical indicators regarding library users in the past and today
  • Changes in the line of work in light of users’ needs (new workplaces and occupations, human resource policy, technological innovations)
  • The influence of technology on users’ behavior 
  • Anticipation of users’ needs and methods of meeting their needs in the future
  • User experience (UX), Evidence Based Librarianship, User Generated Content

Other topics related to the main topic of the conference are welcome.

FORMAT AND SUBMISSION OF PAPERS

The official languages of the conference are Serbian and English, with simultaneous interpretation.
The conference will cover three types of papers: full text papers, short presentations of the best practice (PechaKucha) and poster presentations.
We invite all interested authors to send abstracts in English up to 300 words, with contact information, professional affiliations and information on format (whether it is a professional paper, short presentation or a poster) to the address konferencija2016@bds.rs by September 16th 2016 (please follow the Guidelines for authors).
The authors of the accepted papers for the conference will be informed by October 15th 2016.
Proceedings of the selected papers from the conference will be printed in 2017.

REGISTRATION

Registration for the conference will be announced on the webpage of the conference by November 1st 2016. Conference registration fee is 2.000,00 RSD and it includes registration for both days of the conference, conference material and refreshment during the conference. Members of SLA and students do not pay the registration fee, as well as the authors who participate in the conference.
Conference participants cover travel and accommodation expenses.
