The Serbian Library Association (SLA), with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, the National Library of Serbia, and the University Library “Svetozar Marković” in Belgrade, announces a call for papers, poster presentations, panel sessions topics, and participation in the 19th SLA Conference that will be organized in the National Library of Serbia and the University Library “Svetozar Marković” in Belgrade, from 14 to 16 December 2022.

The theme of this year’s conference is Associations, Connections, and Networks of Librarians.

OBJECTIVE OF THE CONFERENCE

In 2022, the Serbian Library Association celebrates a significant jubilee ‒ 75 years since its founding in Belgrade in 1947. The anniversary of the founding of the Association is an important event for the library and information community in Serbia, due to the longevity of the Association, its mission to connect library and information professionals in the country and abroad, and because of the activities carried out by SLA in the first decades after the foundation that have left a lasting impact to this day. Some of the most important activities are the launch of the scientific journal Bibliotekar (Librarian) in 1948, professional assistance in establishing the High School of Librarianship in Belgrade (1948), participation of SLA bodies in drafting bylaws important for the development of the profession, organization of professional meetings of librarians, etc. In these and later decades, the key tasks of SLA have been how to unite, connect, and network librarians, library technicians, and other professional associates. These are the reasons why SLA, in the year marking the 75th anniversary of the national representative association of Serbian librarians, dedicated the theme of the 19th Conference to the mentioned tasks, in order to more clearly observe and promote the inspiring examples of the associations of librarians, as well as the perspective of connecting library professionals in the networked world of the future.

TOPICS

The organizers invite interested authors to submit their papers in full text presenting examples of innovative practice within one or more proposed subtopics of this year’s conference:

  • Associations of librarians, formal and informal library networks
  • Librarians and e-environment (bonding on social networks, blogs, websites, podcasts)
  • Intra-sectoral and cross-sectoral connections of librarians (different types of connections and cooperation of librarians from the same or different types of libraries)
  • Cooperation of librarians with institutions, organizations, and the private sector (librarians and educational, scientific, cultural, sports, health, and other public institutions, librarians and publishing houses, librarians and media, librarians and private companies, etc.)
  • Development and perspectives of library networks in today’s multi-networked world
  • Librarians and the environment (social status of employees, economic status, recognizability in society)
  • Activities of librarians within and through library associations, launching initiatives and activities that have left a lasting impact on the profession
  • Volunteering in librarianship ‒ experiences, opportunities, and advantages
  • Libraries as meeting places for experts in the field of technology and humanities.

Since the proposed sub-topics are frameworks for thematic thinking, the organizers encourage authors to be creative in proposing papers that correspond to the main theme of the Conference.

The Conference will include working sessions, panel sessions, an invited lecture, poster presentations, and presentations by IT and sponsorship companies.
